As vaccines rollout and we prepare for events and conferences to make a return, we want to look back at one of our most energizing events, CinemaCon, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.

CinemaCon is the largest and most important gathering of movie theater owners from around the world, attracting over 5,000 industry professionals from more than 80 countries.

In 2016, we partnered with Barco for the fifth year in a row to present a projection mapping piece on Caesars Palace for their annual industry party called The Belgium Beer Bar.

With the help of our friends at Fivestone Studios, we composed content, sound design, visual effects and a custom track for the show’s finale. We also provided gear and technical oversight for all aspects of the party.

Due to the event’s grand scale we had to start preliminary planning earlier than usual. The team used a Leica P30 laser scanner to build an accurate 3D model of Caesar’s Palace down to the millimeter. The scan model created a very accurate 3D model of the building’s architectural features inside the d3 virtual environment. Projectors and their lens configurations were placed in the 3D model as well.

To calibrate, or “warp,” the building, the programmer picked out five points on the virtual model and, through a “drag and drop” process, matched the same points on the “real” building. The virtual projectors then triangulated this information, sampled, and output that information to the real projectors.

To cleanly and precisely execute the event, we used:

  • 14 Barco HDF-W26 projectors
    • 6 of the projectors were outfitted with Barco’s newest, exclusive short zoom lens TLD+ Ultra (0.8-1.16:1 WUXGA)
  • 2 d3 Technologies 4x4pro media servers equipped with Video Format Conversion (VFC) output cards
  • 2 High End Systems MMS-100s
  • 12 High End Systems ShapeShifters
  • 10 High End Systems Showguns

In an article from PLSN about the project, we shared why we believe this project was a huge success, and those reasons hold true today:

“We are good at what we do because we focus on the core business of projection mapping and being good at that. We do what we say we are going to do; we do it with excellence. Those are not just buzzwords for us. We are dedicated to the quality of this specific art.”
